The police are investigating an incident that occurred yesterday at L and P Construction Company, Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara, that claimed the life of 52-year-old Zheng Shun Lui.
According to a police press release, the incident occurred at about 09:55 hrs while Zheng, an employee of L and P Construction company, was working alone inside a septic tank being built at a bond under construction.
Investigations revealed that the wall on the western side of the tank collapsed and pinned the man. The release said other workers at the site rendered assistance and managed to remove him from the tank. They also summoned the police and emergency medical technicians. The police said the man was pronounced dead by a doctor at the site.
The scene was processed by detectives and crime scene investigators, it added and the body examined for marks of violence revealing injuries on the left side.
The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, and awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing, the police said.
