During an intelligence-led operation at a La Penitence Squatting Area home yesterday, police discovered a .32 Taurus pistol and a matching round along with 30.3 grammes of cannabis. Two suspects were arrested.
According to a police press release, the operation began at about 00:30 hrs at the home of a 30-year-old man of La Penitence Squatting Area. During a search of the premises, the release stated, the gun and ammunition were found in the bedroom.
The police press release stated that as ranks continued their search, a transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was found in the kitchen.
The man and a 27-year-old woman were asked whether either had a valid firearm licence, and they both responded, no. They were then told of the offences committed, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the East La Penitence police station along with the items, the police said.
The firearm and ammunition were marked and the cannabis was weighed in their presence and amounted to 30.3 grammes. All the mentioned items were lodged, the release added.
Investigations are ongoing.
