KFC Elite League
– GDF leads standings due to superior goal difference
Defending champion and undefeated league leader, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), and second-place outfit Slingerz FC battled to a scoreless draw in their final matches of round one in the KFC Elite League on Saturday evening at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Witnessed by a large crowd, the contest failed to produce clear-cut opportunities from both sides, as the respective rearguards thwarted the opposing offensive lines.
With the result, both teams finished unbeaten in the first round on 25 points, following a record of eight wins and a draw. However, the army unit sits atop the standings due to their superior goal differential of +36. Slingerz finished with an equally impressive goal differential of +33.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force rounds out the top three with 19 points, while Santos [15 points] and the Western Tigers [12 points] sit in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Den Amstel, Fruta Conquerors, Anns Grove, Monedderlust, and Buxton United sit in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th place, respectively.
The second round of the competition is slated to commence on May 25th. The winner of the event will pocket $2,000,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $1,200,000, $800,000, and $500,000, respectively.
