Despite being afforded a second shot at qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in the Mixed 4x400m and Men’s 4x400m Relays at the World Relays in Nassau, The Bahamas, both Guyanese teams once again fell short last evening in spite of their best efforts.

The quartet of Daniel Williams, Tianna Springer, Malachi Austin, and anchor Aliyah Abrams clocked 3 minutes, 17.65 seconds en route to fifth place in Mixed 4x400m Olympic Qualifier 2 (Round 1) and missed out.

The Bahamas secured automatic qualification by winning the race in a national record of 3:12.81 seconds, while Jamaica got the second qualification spot with a run of 3:14.49 seconds.

Later in the night, Williams again began the Men’s 4x400m, while Patrick Abel held the responsibility of the second leg. Malachi Austin ran the third leg, while Simeon Adams was the anchor.

Again, despite their best efforts, Guyana placed last in the field of eight, running 3:10.01 seconds. Spain did just enough to hold off Poland as the two countries booked their passage to Paris with respective times of 3:2.39 seconds, and 3:2.91 seconds.

At the World Relays, the top two finishers in the Olympic Qualifiers (OQ) automatically qualify for the Olympic Games as well as the finals in their respective events.
