The body that was pulled from a trench at Dennis Street between ‘C’ and ‘D’ Fields, Sophia, Georgetown, on Monday afternoon has been identified as that of Monella Hamer of Pattensen Access Road, Turkeyen.
A Guyana Police Force release yesterday stated that about 1 pm on Monday the Turkeyen police station received a call informing that a body had been seen motionless in the trench.
Ranks were dispatched to the scene where they discovered the body of a male of African descent, floating face down in a trench. Inquiries revealed that on Sunday, at about 5 pm, Hamer was last seen at his home, which is located close to the trench. It was also said that Hamer suffered from epilepsy.
The body was pulled out and Marlon Hamer, who was present, identified the body to be that of his brother. The body was clad in a black t-shirt and grey shorts. No mark of violence was observed.
The body is currently at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
