Construction worker, driver charged over cannabis

-after nabbed at police roadblock

Christopher Graham, a 34-year-old construction worker of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, and Nashon Johnson, a 28-year-old driver of Lot 68 Victoria Village  both appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court yesterday to answer to the charge of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.

Graham pled guilty while Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court heard that on Saturday, May 04, at about 22.45 hours, police conducted a roadblock exercise on the Cove and John public road, on the East Coast Demerara.

They stopped a silver/grey Toyota Premio car, PAF 436 and detected a strong odour, suspected to be cannabis, coming from inside the car. This prompted police to search the driver and the two passengers. The car was also searched.
