Twenty-five-year-old Trifon Landry appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where he was charged with robbery and robbery with violence.
Landry plead guilty to both offences.
It was alleged that on April 22, while at East Street, Georgetown and in the company of another, he robbed Adolphus Shepard of one LG cellular phone valued at $80,000, one black cellular phone valued at $40,000, and one electric scooter valued at $60,000, along with $10,000 cash, totalling $190,000. It was further alleged that on April 28, at North Road, Georgetown, he robbed Jerrell Joseph Campbell of one Samsung cellular phone valued at $23,500, one hundred US dollars (equivalent to $20,000 Guyana dollars) and $40,000 cash, totalling $83,500. It was also alleged that at the time of or immediately after the offence occurred, Landry punched Campbell to the left side of his face.
The prosecution objected to bail, arguing that coupled with the nature and gravity of the offence, Landry was not truthful to the court and had previously admitted to the offence. The court also heard that Campbell was able to positively identify Landry by the teardrop tattoo near his right eye. In addition, Landry does not have a fixed place of abode and lives in an abandoned building. As such, if let out on bail, the prosecution fears that the authorities may be unable to locate him.
Given the circumstances, Magistrate McGusty refused bail and adjourned the matter to May 21.
