The Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department is investigating the fatality that occurred at the Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara, on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Chinese national and employee of L&P Construction, Zheng Shun Liu, a release from the ministry said yesterday.
According to reports received, Zheng was at the time constructing a septic tank at a bond located on the site, when a wall collapsed and crushed him.
Other workers at the site managed to remove Zheng from the area and he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Following these reports, Senior OSH Officer, Darwin Bourne, and OSH Officer, Ray Hosannah, visited the site to conduct a preliminary investigation.
The ministry has said that occupational deaths for the year so far have risen over last year’s figure.
