Awards handed out for Children’s Costume and Road Parade

The Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Unit yesterday hosted the annual Children’s Costume and Road Parade Awards Ceremony in the auditorium of NCERD.

While delivering brief remarks, Head of EdYou FM, Phillip Williams provided an overview of the competition, a release from the Ministry of Education said.

He noted that the Children’s Mashramani Competitions began in January of this year and were coordinated by the Regional Education Departments across the country. The winners of these competitions were invited to participate in the National Children’s Mashramani Competitions in Georgetown on February 16.

The winners of the Calypso, Dramatic Poetry, Dance, Masquerade and Hip-Hop Competitions have received their prizes for those competitions, the release said.

The Children’s Costume and Road Parade which was hosted on February 17, attracted 21 Bands from 10 Regional Education Departments, all-told there was a total of 1,112 revellers.

The Children’s Costume and Road Parade was scored according to five categories: Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Individual Pieces, Other Children’s Organisations and Regional Bands. The participating bands were scored on the Tarmac of the National Park.

1. St. Stanislaus College

2. Richard Ishmael Secondary School

3. Cummings Lodge Secondary School

Individual Bands

1. Samaya Denny Other Children’s

Organisations Bands

1. Ministry of Amerindian Affairs Hinterland Scholarship

Division Regional Bands

1. Regional Education Department Region Six

2. Regional Education Department Region Ten

3. Regional Education Department Region Four
