The Traffic Department, Regional Division #9, has issued a public advisory for all drivers using the Linden to Lethem (Trail) Road and access roads in surrounding villages in Region Nine.
The advisory warns of reports of flooding at various sections of the roads due to persistent rainfall in the Rupununi.
As such, the Lethem Traffic Department urges all drivers to exercise caution when approaching the flooded areas mentioned below.
Central Rupununi – 1) Nappi Access Road, 2) Hiawa Access Road, Manari Bridge; North Rupununi – 1) Yakarinta Junction, 2) Massara Access Road, 3) Toka Culvert; South Pakaraimas/ Karasabai – 1) Yurora Bridge; South Rupununi – 1) Maruranau, 2) Merriwau Bridge, 3) Rupununi Bridge.
he release also advises that large lorries transporting goods, to reduce their cargo, when navigating bypass bridges in order to avoid incidents. Similarly, minibus drivers are also advised to reduce loads at the top of their vehicles. It further warns that driving through floodwater can be dangerous and should be avoided if necessary.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the Lethem Traffic Department is urging all motorists to practice safety-driving at this time
