The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) yesterday said that some villages in Region Nine have been flooded as a result of continuous rain.

In an advisory, the CDC said that in the North Rupununi, a portion of the road between Toka and Massara has eroded due to flash floods. The Yakarinta Bridge is covered by water and the Aranaputa Valley has been flooded in the low sections. The main road in the Aranaputa Valley is completely cut off and commuters are unable to travel between Annai and Lethem.

Karasabai is inaccessible by land because of high water levels in the Yurora Creek due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

The road at Tiger Pond has eroded in many sections and is impassible, the CDC added.

Sand Creek cannot be accessed by vehicles and Karaudarnau has been flooded due to heavy rain. Further, the Rupununi River crossing at Katoonarib is not accessible. Sections of both approaches to the bridge are flooded.
