Thirty-eight coast guard ranks complete training

Thirty-eight  Coast Guard ranks have completed rigorous training at the Coast Guard Training School.

 

A release from the Guyana Defence Force said that ten ranks completed the premier Coxswain Course, while twenty-eight ranks finished the entry-level Ordinary Rating Seaman Course (ORSC).

 

This training, which commenced on January 24, 2024, and concluded on May 9, 2024, covered essential skills and knowledge crucial for maritime operations.

 

The Coxswains, the release said, underwent advanced training in Navigation, Pilotage, Maritime Law Enforcement, and more. They also gained practical experience in boat handling and emergency response. At the same time, Ordinary Ratings focused on Basic Seamanship, Sea Survival, and Coast Guard History, among other subjects, equipping them with the necessary knowledge for their roles.

 

Leading Rating Stephon Matthews, was not only the Best Graduating Student of the Coxswain Course but also excelled in boat handling, a testament to his exceptional skills and commitment.

Ordinary Ratings Junior Willis was the Best Graduating Student for the ORSC, Ordinary Rating Nkasi Edwards earned the Best Nautical Knowledge prize, and Wilton Francis was the Runner-up.

 

Executive Officer of the Coast Guard, Commander Adrian McLean underscored the importance of safety, efficiency, and caution during deployments and operations, urging them to remain vigilant and be responsible guardians of our waters.
