West Demerara powerhouse Slingerz FC have signed Jamaican forward Kemar Beckford from the second round of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League, which is pencilled to commence on May 18th.
Beckford, who moves from Jamaican Premier League outfit Vere United, where he is the club’s leading scorer this season, brings a wealth of experience to the Vergenoegen-based outfit following stints with ADR Jicaral in Costa Rica and Jocoro in El Salvador.
Slingerz FC coach Alex Thomas, who is also a native of Jamaica, said, “We’re short on attack. That’s what we noticed in the first half of the league. That is why we went out and got this player. He came to bolster our attack, add to the group, and help Slingerz FC win the league in the end.”
Presently, 19-year-old Slingerz forward Marcus Tudor leads the event’s scoring charts with 12 conversions, while teammate and midfielder Darron Niles is second on the list with nine goals.
Meanwhile, Beckford stated that his aim is to score goals and win titles, adding, “I’ve been closely following the league even before my arrival in Guyana, so I understand the expectations.
I’m ready to contribute and make an impact on the field with the team.”
He further said, “It’s just me coming here to do my best and share my experience because it’s a very young team, but a very good team, so with my experience, I know we’re going to do well. Watch out for Kemar Beckford and Slingerz FC.”
Slingerz will resume their Elite League campaign against Monedderlust.
The first round encounter between the teams ended 7-0 in favour of the unbeaten Slingerz outfit, who sit on 25 points and trail league leader, the Guyana Defence Force, due to an inferior goal differential.
