Probe launched after mechanic found dead in bed

Police yesterday said they were investigating the death of a mechanic who was found lifeless in his bed in his River View, Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara home.

A police release said that a death report was made on Saturday May 11th about Daneshwar Sawh called Derrick, a 50-year-old mechanic. It was revealed that the deceased was an alcoholic who lived alone and did mechanical work around the villages.

He was last seen alive on May 9th by Bharrat Bhinauth, for whom he was doing some work but left later for home and did not return, the release said.

The following day, at around 11:00 hrs Bhinauth visited the man’s home and looking through a window, saw him lying on his bed. However, when he called out to him several times but got no response, he assumed the man was drunk so he left, the police said.

When he returned on May 11th and found him lying in the same position on his bed, appearing motionless, a report was made to the police.

The  police visited and photographed and processed the scene but because of the decomposition of the body they were unable to determine if there were any marks of violence, the release said.

Sawh’s body was later escorted to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
