Pele overcame Riddim Squad 4-1 on penalty kicks in their quarterfinal encounter to advance to the semifinal segment when the Buxton Stars Sweet 16 Knockout Football Championship continued last night at the National Training Centre, Providence.

Locked at 2-2 at the end of fulltime, the penalty shoot-out started poorly for the Riddim Squad, as they were denied by the goalkeeper. Pele capitalised on the aforesaid error as they scored to take a 1-0 lead.

The score then was 2-1 in favour of Pele, as both teams converted in the second round. However, Riddim Squad was once again denied by the goalkeeper to start the third round, which allowed Pele to take a 3-1 lead following a subsequent conversion.

Riddim Squad then sealed their exit from the event as they fired their fourth attempt high over the crossbar. Up until press time, the Eastveldt and Santos quarterfinal encounter was underway. The event is pencilled to resume on Wednesday with the other matches in the quarterfinal section.

Among the other teams that have sealed their berths in the quarterfinal section are the Buxton Stars and Mahaica Determinators.
