Canje motorcyclist dies after slamming into donkey

A Gangaram, East Canje Berbice motorcyclist lost his life on Sunday evening after he crashed into a donkey along the Betsy Ground Public Road while on his way home.

Dead is Kumar Atmaram also known as ‘Shawn’, 24, a construction worker of Gangaram Village, East Canje Berbice.

His mother, Pamela Partab, 52, of Adelphi Village, East Canje Berbice, yesterday told Stabroek News that her son lived with a sibling at the Gangaram location.

She explained that she was told that on Sunday he left home to head to a tire shop in Canefield, East Canje Berbice, where one of his friends resided.

Around 9.30 pm he was on his way home on his motorcycle when he slammed into a donkey along the Betsy Ground Village Public Road, one village away from his home.

The distraught woman said, “Them say he lef fa come home and me na know where the donkey come from and he knock it. Me son died on the spot, he neck break, them say he neck break right away, the impact from the donkey.”

Atmaram was picked up in an unconscious condition from the location and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Describing her son as a quiet person, Partab said, “he does go help all body, he does carry he slasher and work it.”

Atmaram who leaves five siblings to mourn purchased the motorcycle several months ago.
