Government Technical Institute (GTI) and Linden Technical Institute (LTI) secured contrasting victories when the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Tertiary League commenced on Sunday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
LTI thrashed New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) 81–45. Kemol Grimmond recorded a double-double of 22 points, 19 rebounds, and three assists, while Neil Marks contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, and Colin Phillips netted 12 points.
Adding nine points and 12 rebounds was Lerone Joseph, while Stephen George contributed eight points and 12 rebounds.
For the loser, Jared Dainty recorded 16 points, seven rebounds, and six steals, while Antwone Nelson tallied 14 points. Chipping in with eight points and 16 rebounds was Kymani Spellen.
GTI overcame the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) 72–62. Martin Edwards tallied 23 points and five rebounds, while Jamal Mercier tallied a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Peter Langevine amassed 14 points, 12 rebounds, and six steals.
On the other side, Shannon Wilson registered 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Alwin DeFreitas scored 11 points and Dennis Prince recorded eight points and nine rebounds.
The event continues on Sunday at 17:00 hrs with a triple header. The University of Guyana will oppose GSA in the opening encounter, while LTI will battle UCC at 18:30hrs and NATI will engage GTI at 20:00 hrs.
The Tertiary Basketball League will be played every Sunday at the same venue, with the final pencilled for June 17th.
