The Ministry of Education in a memorandum yesterday advised regional education officers that no public or primary school is to conduct annual examinations in the August Term of 2024 because of the weeks of instruction lost and the limited number of weeks remaining.
The memorandum signed by Chief Labour Officer Saddam Hussain also said that schools are to conduct continuous assessment in the current August Term.
Further, the end of year score for Grade 9 should not be the main criterion for streaming students into Grade 10. The memorandum said that consideration must be given to the student’s choice of stream. The memorandum added that Circular 13 of 2023 must be followed when streaming of students is done.
It stated that the National Grade Five assessment will be administered as usual.
The memorandum did not identify the cause of the loss of weeks of instructions but this was due to the four-week strike by teachers in February this year. The strike resumed last week.
