Alphas defeated Classic Ball Blasters (CBB) 3-1 to climb atop the standings when the Demerara Volleyball Association’s (DVA) Senior Men’s League continued on Wednesday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
In what was the final match of the first round, Alphas overcame CBB to prevail 25-23 and take a 1-0 advantage. Alphas then doubled their lead in the second set, as they triumphed by an identical score.
However, CBB responded to half the deficit in the third stanza, winning by a 26-24 score. Nonetheless, any attempts at a come-from-behind win for CBB were extinguished in the fourth set, as Alphas won 25-22.
With the win, Alphas leapfrog Castrol Strikers to sit atop the standings by 17 points. Castrol are in close proximity with 16 points, while the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Eagles occupy the third and fourth positions, respectively, with 15 and 12 points.
In fifth place is CBB, who sit on six points, while Vanguard occupy the cellar position on two points.
The second round of the competition is scheduled to commence shortly.
