Inaugural Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) T10 Blast champs, Demerara Pitbulls, will pocket the tournament’s top prize of $1,500,000 after completing an exceptional tournament.
The Pitbulls created a bit of history on Monday after they advanced from the semifinals all the way to the finals, where they eclipsed the Essequibo Jaguars by a 2-wicket margin.
Following their win, GCB made the huge announcement that the Pitbulls, the Jaguars, and the two losing semi-finalists would each receive monetary awards.
While the Pitbulls bagged the main prize, the Jaguars, who finished second, will receive $500,000, while the Essequibo Anacondas and the Berbice Caimans will pocket $100,000 each, as per confirmation by the GCB. On the individual side, Christopher Barnwell was adjudged the most valuable player (MVP) with a haul of 170 runs and 11 wickets, while Quentin Sampson copped the highest scorer accolade with 234 runs.
Similarly, Ashmead Nedd copped the title for the most wickets with 13 scalps, while Jeremiah Scott secured the accolade for the most dismissals.
GCB president Bissoondyal Singh lauded the respective franchises for their show of sportsmanship, class, high levels of competition, and professionalism throughout the length of the tournament. Meanwhile, the official presentation of prizes to the franchises will be done shortly.
