Stena Drilling supports U-14 Football Championship

Stena Drilling became the latest entity to throw its support behind the Petra Organisation-coordinated ExxonMobil Boy’s and Girl’s U-14 Football Championship, which will kick off tomorrow at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, with the qualifying section.

The company will aid in the staging of the qualifying tournament, which is slated to commence tomorrow at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.

Christina Ramroop, the entity’s administrator and local content officer, stated that the company is honoured to be part of this tournament, noting, “We recognise the immense value of events like this in bringing people together through the shared love of football.”

Ramroop praised the organisers for creating a platform that showcases the talents of the respective competitors, adding that while the event presents a competitive avenue, it also creates an opportunity for lasting friendships amongst diverse individuals to be formed.

She further stated that the company believes firmly in the unifying power of sports as it uplifts the respective communities and transcends boundaries irrespective of status, culture, and gender, noting, “Moreover, events such as these align with our company’s values of care, innovation, and performance and our commitment to safety, excellence, and integrity.”

Also, Tim Swain, Rig Manager of Stena Drilling, underscored that the company is pleased to support this project, noting that he emanates from the United Kingdom and that football like cricket is “close to our hearts.”

He further stated that it’s an exciting opportunity and that the company is pleased to play its part in the development of the discipline.

Meanwhile, Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, thanked the company for their timely support, which will aid in the successful staging of the elimination segment, noting that a playoff section was required given the overwhelming response from the interested schools.

The main segment tournament will now commence on May 25th due to the overwhelming support from the respective schools. The event will see an unprecedented 24 female teams and 32 male sides competing for cash prizes, which will go towards a school project of the winners’ choice.

Schools from Regions #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, and #10 have expressed intentions to participate in the tournament, some fielding both male and female teams, while others will be represented in the male segment only.

The boy’s category will see the 32 teams divided into eight groups of fours for the round-robin stage, followed by the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and subsequent final. The girl’s segment will see the 24 teams broken into six groups of four, followed by the subsequent knockout phases. Waramuri of Region #1 won the girl’s title, while Bartica won the boy’s division.

The respective divisional winners will earn $400,000 towards a school project of their choosing plus the corresponding trophy, while the runners-up will receive $200,000, third-place $100,000, and fourth-place $75,000, all accompanied by their respective trophies.
