Daniel Badley, a 19-year-old of Lot 41 Second Street, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, and Lot 102 Quamina Street, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, was charged along with two juveniles for the offence of murder committed on John Williams, which occurred on May 11 at Commerce Street, Georgetown.
The trio appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Principal Magistrate Annette Singh, where the indictable charge was read to them. They were not required to plead.
The two juveniles, a 14-year-old, and a 15-year-old, were remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre while Badley was remanded to prison.
According to police, on the night in question, Williams, a contractor from Martyrs Ville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was walking on Commerce Street when he was ambushed by three persons. They attempted to steal Williams’ haversack, and when he resisted, one of the accused stabbed him in the left side of his chest with a knife, causing him to collapse on the roadway.
Following the attack, the attackers fled the scene. Two juveniles were later captured by the police.
The matter was adjourned to June 07.
