More than two months after this country said it was ready to sign on to the Samoa Agreement, this still has not been done with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugh Todd, assuring that Georgetown will be a signatory to the agreement at the next available opportunity.
“Not as yet. As you know we had to go through the documents because when the negotiations began we were not involved… we had to put together a team to meet with them and got to a point where we are satisfied,” Todd told the Sunday Stabroek last week when asked for an update.
“We will sign at the next available opportunity, possibly in Samoa later this year or in Antigua later this month [where is there is the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4)],” he added.
