Best labourer in custody after drugs find

The 195.7 grammes of cannabis

Police, during an intelligence-led operation on Saturday, discovered 195.7 grammes of cannabis in a house at Best Village, West Coast Demerara. The suspect is in custody.

According to a police press release, ranks, acting on information received, went to the home of a 30-year-old labourer at Best Village (Foreshore). He was told of the reason for the visit, and a search was conducted on his person and nothing illegal was found, the release said. Ranks then conducted a search of the living room of his house and found a bulky black plastic bag containing a large clear transparent plastic bag with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems of cannabis, it added.

  He was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the Leonora Police Station.

The narcotics, weighed in his presence, amounted to 195.7 grammes and were marked, sealed, and lodged.

The suspect is in custody.
