A 23-year-old Guyana Telephone and Telegraph company (GTT) technician was shot once during a robbery on Saturday night by two men armed with a handgun at Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Police are investigating an armed robbery committed on Jonathan Baker, 23, a technician at GTT and of Lot 3178 Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown. Baker was relieved of a black CR motorcycle valued at $500,000, bearing registration number CL 9585.
According to a police report, the incident occurred at about 22:30 hrs when the two men drove up to Baker on a black XR motorcycle, registration number unknown. One of them was armed with a black handgun.
The police release said enquiries revealed that Baker was about to ride into his yard, when he was confronted by the duo. The pillion rider pulled out a black handgun from his pants’ waist and demanded that Baker hand over his motorcycle, the release said. However, he resisted and the armed suspect discharged a single round which hit the fingers on Baker’s left hand, it added. He was then relieved of his motorcycle and the men made good their escape.
The release said Baker went to the St Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and admitted as a patient in a stable condition. The area was canvassed for CCTV cameras and the retrieved footage will be viewed, it added.
Police said several people were questioned, though searches made for the suspects in the area proved futile. Investigations are ongoing.
