Ravens, Colts maintain unbeaten streaks in Men’s U-23 basketball

Ravens and Colts recorded contrasting wins when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s (GABA) U-23 Men’s Championship continued Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Ravens clawed past Sonics 82-58. Attila Williamson and Alroy Nurse led the way with 21 points, respectively. Supporting them with 10 and eight points apiece were Krishan Henderson and Omar Headley.

On the other side, Kurvin Mars scored the most with 19 points, while Shamar Hope was the next best scorer with 12 points. Marvin Mars added eight points, while the combination of Javon Vasconcellos and Devon Nedd netted seven points apiece.

Sonics secured the initial lead in the contest as the first quarter finished 18–13. Ravens marginally reduced the deficit in the second stanza, tallying 16 points while restricting Sonics to 14 points to trail 29-32 entering the halftime interval.

However, it proved to be a game of two halves, as the Ravens unit soared ahead after the third period, outscoring the Nets 26-11 to enter the final stanza in control at 55-43. The come-from-behind victory was then sealed, as the Ravens once again outscored the Sonics 27-15.

Meanwhile, Colts edged the Nets 75-68. The quartet of Ronoko Vaughn, Charles Williams, Shannon Wilson, and Richard Semple recorded 14, 12, 11, and 11 points, respectively. For the loser, Shaquille Hescott tallied a game-high 21 points, while Peter Langevine contributed 17 points. Adding 10 and eight points apiece were Chris Perez and Nicquan Ferrier.

Trailing 10-16 at the end of the first quarter, the Colts seized control of the match in the second stanza as they outhustled the Nets 27-15 to enter the halftime interval ahead at 37-31.

The Colts extended their advantage in the third quarter, netting 21 points, while restricting the Nets to 16 points to enter the fourth period in control at 58-47.

The Colts clinched the deserved win despite being outscored 17-21 in the final quarter, as the initial lead proved insurmountable. The event continues on Wednesday at the same venue with another round of matches.
