‘Settlement of All Arguments’ street-ball competition starts Thursday

– 24 teams to descend on Mocha Arcadia

The inaugural edition of the ‘Settlement of All Arguments’ street-ball competition will commence on Thursday evening at the Mocha Community Centre, Tarmac.

This was disclosed in a press release from the organising committee.

The three events, which will utilise a direct elimination format, will feature 24 teams from various communities and regions battling for over $400,000 in prizes. The other playing dates are May 24th (quarterfinals) and 26th (semifinals and finals).

The competing teams, which emanate from various environments and comprise a maximum of seven players, are: Family, Ballerz Empire, Agricola Ballers, Timehri Ballers, Red Force, Unstoppable, Make it Happen, Back Circle B, Five ‘O’, Slugs, Laing Avenue Ballers, Back Circle A, Festival City, North East La Penitence, Young City, Lodge All-Stars, Beterverwagting Ballers, LA Ballers B, Stabroek Ballers, Victoria Eagles, Genesis, North Ruimveldt, TMT, and Talibans.

The release stated, “Each first-round game will consist of two halves, with a total duration of 10 minutes (5 minutes per half). Straight penalty if the game is drawn at full time. The quarterfinals and semifinal matches will last 15 minutes (7 1/2 minutes per half), while the third-place playoff will last 20 minutes (10 minutes per half). The championship fixture will last 30 minutes in total (15 minutes per half). There will be a two-minute halftime break, with each team granted one 30-second timeout during the match. A walkover will be declared if a team fails to commence the game within five minutes of the scheduled start time.”

Meanwhile, member of the organising committee, Troy Van Rossum, said, “The upcoming street football competition promises not only to settle longstanding debates in local football but also to foster unity within our communities and provide a constructive outlet for the talents of our youth.”

He further said, “I strongly believe this event will not only showcase the sporting prowess of our communities but also strengthen bonds and promote healthy competition among our youth.”
