Man charged with causing death of D’Urban St motorcyclist

Thirty-five-year-old Rawle Thornhill, appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

It was alleged that on August 13 2024 at D’Urban Street, Georgetown he drove motor vehicle PXX 3933 in a manner

dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of 34-year-old Selassie Jahran McFarlane, called “Lassie”.

He pled not guilty. His attorney who made an application for his bail told the magistrate that the parties involved have come to a settlement. Additionally,  the deceased was a childhood friend of Thornhill. He also told the court that there was video evidence that the bike was being ridden in a certain manner when it collided with his client’s car.

He said his client has an unblemished record and is not a flight risk.

The magistrate adjourn-ed the matter to June 20 2024 for disclosure and a report in relation to settlement.

McFarlane succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit 10 days after he was knocked off his motorcycle.
