The Guyana Police Force [GPF] says it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 48-year-old pedestrian who it is suspected ran into the path of a motor lorry on the Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Sunday at around 19:50 hrs.
The deceased was identified as Rooplall Haindarsan of Lot 93 Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara. The incident, the GPF said, involved motor lorry, GTT 4579 driven by a 37-year-old of Agriculture Road, East Coast Demerara.
Inquiries have so far disclosed that the motor lorry was proceeding west along the Enmore Public Road at a normal rate of speed when, according to the driver, the pedestrian ran across the road in a north to south direction and into the path of the motor lorry where the collision occurred. As a result of the impact, the pedestrian fell on the road and sustained injuries about his body. The Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) were summoned and the pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken the Georgetown Public Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the motor lorry, the police statement said, is in custody assisting with their investigations.
