Guyana’s shores will be graced with the presence of the famous International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup trophy which is set to arrive in the country today at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
Having made its rounds in neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana is the next stop with the trophy’s tour of the Caribbean slated to end in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
During its stay in Guyana, it has been revealed that the Office of the First Lady will be facilitating children from orphanages along with differently-abled persons, to interact with the various Cricket Ambassadors as well as to see the trophy.
Additionally, the Trophy is expected to head to one of the world’s wonders, Kaieteur Falls before heading to President Irfaan Ali and members of the Cabinet for a visit.
Meanwhile on Thursday morning, the trophy will be taken to one of Guyana’s most renowned landmarks, St. George’s Cathedral, where schoolchildren will interact with the Cricket Ambassadors and be able to take photos with the trophy.
There will be another public viewing at the Kingston Seawall Esplanade and it will be on stage during soca artiste Kes’ performance at the Stinging Nettles show at the Marriott parking lot later that evening.
Prior to Trinidad and Tobago, the trophy made stops in Barbados, St. Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda.
Guyana is one of the host nations of the world cup with group matches being hosted from June 2-8, followed by semi-final two on June 27.
While the Land of Many Waters will host the second match in the tournament, it will be the first for the West Indies on June 2 when they take on Papua New Guinea.
Tickets are currently available at the box office in Guyana at the Guyana Cricket Board office on Regent Street. The ticket booth is open Monday to Friday from 10:30AM to 6PM and on Saturdays from 10AM to 4PM.
The Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies, will run from June 1 to 29.
