Kuru Kururu ‘A’ crowned champs of Soesdyke/ Timehri Highway Futsal Championship

Kuru Kuru ‘A’ were crowned champions of the second edition of the PPP-sponsored Soesdyke/ Timehri Highway Cluster Futsal Championship on Sunday amid light showers of rain. The victorious side needled Waiakabra in the final to lift the trophy.

Kevon Scott’s lone first half goal sealed the deal for the champions, which saw them lifting the championship trophy and walking away with the $400,000 first place prize.

Meanwhile, Waiakabra collected $200,000 for their efforts.

Sunday’s final was the culmination of two exciting days of futsal action at the Kuru Kuru Ground.

The third-place match saw last year’s winners, Soesdyke getting the better of Kuru Kuru College 3-1 to pocket $75,000 while the loser received $50,000.

Other villages that participated in the 15-team competition included Banakari, Silverhill, Laluni, St. Cuthbert’s Mission and Hauraruni.

Highest Goal Scorer Sunil Logan receives his trophy from Everton Poole.

On the individual side of things, Waiakabra’s Sunil Logan who netted six (6) goals received the Highest Goalscorer trophy from Everton Poole while his teammate, goalkeeper Selon Fernandes was declared the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and received a trophy and $50,000, presented by Minister Kwame McKoy.  

The Best Goalkeeper of the competition was Joshua Wilson who received a trophy from Askari Ferreira.
