UG, LTI and GTI chalk up wins in youth basketball

As the 2nd edition of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Tertiary Basketball League (TBL II) continued on Sunday, the University of Guyana (UG), Linden Technical Institute (LTI) and Government Technical institute (GTI) all chalked up wins at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.

Game one saw UG take on the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) in a one-point thriller which was won by the former. UG led by Malachi Grimond’s 23 points and four steals managed to pip their opponents 50-49. Jushawn Bailey gave a solid performance to complement Grimond racking up 18 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

On the other hand, GSA had noteworthy efforts from Shannon Wilson (19 points, 10 rebounds) and Vivian Bowling (12 points, 3 rebounds) but fell just short.

In the second game of the night, LTI had an easy 39-17 win over Upper Corentyne Combined (UCC) as Neil Marks netted 11 points to go with six rebounds and Stephon George collected seven points and four rebounds. 

The third and final game was a clash between the TIs with GTI handing the New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) a sound 63-35 thrashing to close the night out.

GTI’s Peter Langevine had a game-high 17 points and 15 rebounds and was well supported by Martin Edward (9 points, 5 rebounds) and Delmar Grant (8 points, 9 rebounds).

Aberone Collins was the top performer for the Berbicians, collecting 9 points and five steals while Jared Dainty (5 points, 5 rebounds) and Antwone Nelson (7 points, 4 rebounds) were the other standouts.

The tournament continues next Sunday (May 26) at the same venue from 5 PM.
