-jailed for 60 months over armed robbery
A man, 21, from Annandale and Achiwuib in Region Nine was yesterday charged with the attempted murder of a GDF soldier on May 6th , was jailed for 60 months on armed robbery and read a series of other charges.
According to the police, Terry Tho-mas was remanded over the attempted murder of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldier Azim Khan during a home invasion. Another person has also been charged over the attack on the soldier who remains hospitalized.
Thomas also appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a clutch of armed robbery charges.
He was charged with armed robbery on Sharon Sarjoo of Cove and John Public Road, ECD, which occurred on December 8, 2023. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
He was charged with the armed robbery of Hardeo Chairanji of Mon Repos, ECD. He took one TLC smartphone valued $80,000 and $150,000 cash. The incident occurred on January 1st this year. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment.
He was charged with the armed robbery of Kevlyn Jeune of Enmore, ECD, on March 3. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment.
He was charged with the armed robbery of Durgine Churuman of Mon Repos, ECD. He took two Samsung cellphones valued at $220,000, a number of gold pieces valued at $388,000 and one Amazon tablet valued at $20,000. The incident occurred on April 18. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment.
Ramdular Seewah of Mon Repos was also robbed of $60,000 during an armed attack on April 18. Thomas pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment.
He also did the same to Alicia and Alana Edwards of Annandale, ECD on April 29. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 and 18 months, respectively.
Navindra Ramdeen of Lusignan, ECD was another of his armed robbery victims on May 8. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment.
He was read a series of other charges including break and enter and larceny.
He committed a burglary on the home of Junior Blair and took one 9 mm Taurus Pistol valued $215,000 and twelve live rounds of ammunition valued $2,400 (property of the Guyana Police Force.) This occurred on May 16, at Victoria East Side Line, East Coast Demerara. Thomas pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment.
He also committed a burglary on Travis Cush (Police Sergeant) of Non Pariel ECD, which occurred between April 10 and 11. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment.
-Burglary committed on Karen Dundas of Company Road, Buxton, ECD, on May 16. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
-Burglary committed on Roxanne Blair of two laptops and two samsung smartphones valued $278,000 which occurred on May 16, at Victoria East Side Line, East Coast Demerara. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 and 36 months, respectively.
-Burglary committed on Saskai Morris of North Melanie Damishana, ECD, which occurred on May 20. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
-Burglary committed on the home of Marlon Mitchell, a businessman of Annandale ECD which occurred on January 2. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment.
-Burglary committed on the home of Stacy Williams at Company Road, Buxton ECD, which occurred on May 09. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment.
It is unclear why Thomas was not apprehended before by the police.
