Over $500 million is being invested in the construction of Rif’s Hotel in Henrietta, which is expected to create 35 new job opportunities upon completion by the end of 2024.
Businessman Riyadh Khan, who hails from Henrietta, in Region Two, is overseeing the development through his construction firm, Rans Contracting and Supplies. The construction has so far provided 45 jobs opportunities in the region.
Named in honour of Khan’s father, Ariff Khan, Rif’s Hotel represents the family’s longstanding legacy in the region, transitioning from gas stations and spare parts enterprises to the hospitality sector.
Featuring 40 premium rooms adhering to five-star standards, the hotel will offer single, double, and king suites, along with amenities such as a restaurant, conference room, 24-hour café, fast food service, laundry facilities, and a boutique. Other offerings under consideration include nature walks and agri-tours.
Originally conceived in 2010 but delayed due to economic conditions and lack of confidence in the previous government, the project gained momentum with the current administration’s focus on regional development. Khan said that his confidence was boosted when the government announced that a stadium would be constructed. He stated that there and then he knew that there would be a demand for rooms and good food.
The entrepreneur noted that the Essequibo tourism sector is booming and this gave him the encouragement to construct the hotel.
Strategically located to provide guests with access to essential services, the hotel aims to integrate with the local economy. With the support of his family and the Government of Guyana’s Go-Invest office, Rif’s Hotel is poised to contribute to regional tourism and economic growth.
