Residents of New Forest in Canje, Region Six were yesterday told that the Government will be providing electricity for the first time to the community through the Guyana Power and Light by July of this year.
The announcement came during a visit by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh.
This follows previous community engagements with the residents of New Forest, during which the lack of electricity was raised.
This action comes in keeping with President Irfaan Ali’s directive that all communities that are in close proximity to the national grid and have a sizable population will be provided with electricity.
Water tanks were also yesterday provided to over 30 households within the New Forest community.
