Pacesetters and Eagles tallied wins when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s (GABA) U-23 Men’s Championship continued Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Pacesetters dismantled Bartica 75-53. Benkhai King led the rout with 18 points, with Leon Dover supporting him with 13 points. Adding nine points apiece were the trio of Josiah Roberts, Kwesi Roberts, and Khayeel King.
For the loser, Marian Fiedtkou recorded a game high 20 points, while Giovanni Tracey contributed 15 points. Adding seven points was Deron Canterbury.
Leading 11-10 at the end of the first stanza, the Pacesetters unit saw their minor advantage extinguished as they were outscored 14-15 to enter the halftime interval locked at 25-25.
Bartica then seized the lead in the third period, outscoring Pacesetters 12-9 to enter the fourth quarter in control at 37-34.
However, an offensive onslaught in the final period secured the eventual victory for Pacesetters as they netted 41 points while restricting Bartica to 16.
Meanwhile, Eagles soared past Leonora 78-49. Omario Ganesham recorded a game-high 17 points in the lopsided encounter, with Derron Venture the next best scorer at 15 points. Chipping in with nine points each were Daniel Bailey, Brandon McKoy, and Keron Bacchus.
For the loser, Shaquan Archer and Chikosi Rafiki tallied 16 and 11 points, respectively. Adding seven points was Kermen Rafiki. It was a dominant performance from Eagles who led the opening whistle, as the first stanza concluded 16-9.
Their lead then grew in the second period, as they outscored Leonora 22-12 to enter the halftime interval in control at 38-21. An 18-10 exchange highlighted the third period as Eagles further extended their advantage at 56-31.
The win was then sealed as Eagles outscored Leonora 22-18 in the final quarter. The event continues on Wednesday at the same venue with another round of matches.
