To observe its 30th anniversary in Guyana, the China Medical Team, in collaboration with the Guyana-China Friendship Society recently hosted an open day featuring the 19th China Medical Team.
The event welcomed students from the University of Guyana’s Faculty of Medicine. Attendees included Dr Zhao Changyong, a surgeon from China, along with other Chinese medical professionals. The open day showcased various aspects of Chinese culture, including food, traditional medicine, games, and art, the release said.
The first batch of medical professionals from China arrived from Jiangsu Province in 1993, following the signing of a memorandum between the two countries.
The 19th China Medical Team consists of 16 medical professionals specialising in general surgery, nephrology, orthopaedics, burn and plastic surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, pathology, acupuncture, ophthalmology, radiology, and anaesthesiology. They are currently stationed at the Georgetown Public Hospital and the Linden Hospital Complex.
