Toyota has issued a Takata airbag recall for certain models of its cars.
In a notice in the May 26 Sunday Stabroek, Toyota’s local agent, Beharry Automotive Limited, listed the models and asked owners to take in their vehicles immediately for a free replacement airbag inflator.
The models are the 2003 – 2013 Corolla; the 2003 – 2013 Avensis; the 2003 – 2013 Yaris; the 2003 – 2013 RAV4.
“Your safety is important to us. Please bring in your vehicle immediately. We will replace your airbag inflator for free at Beharry Automotive Limited”, the release said.
According to the notice, the recall is due to a defect in the Takata Airbag inflators for the front passenger seat. The notice said that the effect can cause the inflator to explode during airbag deployment. Such an explosion could cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag material and could cause serious injury or death.
