Guyana’s heavyweight boxer Emmanuel Pompey had his dream of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games crushed yesterday at the second and final Olympic Boxing Qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand.

Facing Georgia’s Georgii Kushitashvili in a 92kg heavyweight contest, Pompey was under pressure from the get-go and could not last the full five rounds with the Georgian pugilist. Korean Referee Jung Sook Cho was forced to stop the fight a mere 1 minute 57 seconds into the second round after he saw that Pompey was being battered relentlessly.

At the time of the RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) decision, four of the five judges had Kushitashvili ahead at 10:9 while one had the Georgian at 10:8.
