Electrical technician burnt in accident at National Stadium

An investigation into a non-fatal industrial accident that occurred on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara, is currently being done by the Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department.

According to reports received,  Neil McGarrel, an Electrical Technician of J. J’s Electrical Contracting Services located at Lot 172 Phase B, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, was conducting voltage tests on an electrical panel.

During this procedure, an electrical short circuit occurred, resulting in a fault that escalated to flames, causing burns to both hands and a part of the face of  McGarrel, a release from the Ministry of Labour said yesterday.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Burn Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
