Thirty-year-old Cuban national, Lyon Sanchez Santy and 44-year-old Shazim Khan both appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag), Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with larceny.
It was alleged that on May 23 2024 at Albouys Street, Albouystown, Georgetown they stole from Shameek Romaine, one Nike bag valued $3000, one scientific calculator valued $10,000, a three-piece earpiece set valued $3000, one brown spectacle case valued $5000, one Samsung phone valued $8000, one Wi-Fi external valued $30,000 and 86,500 cash total value $222,500.
They both pled not guilty. Police prosecutor Morpha Cox objected to bail being granted given the prevalence of the offence. She also objected to bail since the two men have no fixed place of abode.
She told Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus that Khan is currently being investigated for similar matters and the items mentioned in the charge were not recovered.
When asked if they should be granted bail, Santy with the help of a translator, Rochelle Peters told the court that he had nothing to do with the offence committed. Khan asked the Magistrate for low bail.
The Magistrate refused bail and they were remanded to prison until June 12 2024 for statements in the matter.
