Nicholas Verwey, Michael Alphonso, and Safirah Sumner battled to victories when the Kraft Mac and Cheese Junior Squash Championship commenced last night at the Georgetown Club Squash Courts on Camp Street.
Verwey defeated Louis DaSilva 11-3, 7-11, 9-11, 11-7, and 11-6. On the other hand, Alphonso bested Mohryan Baksh 11-4, 11-2, and 11-4.
Meanwhile, Sumner downed Richard Rodrigues 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, and 12-10. Continuing in the same section, Blake Edwards overcame Jeremy Ten-Pow 11-9, 3-11, 11-8, 11-13, and 11-6.
The event, which continues today and concludes on Sunday, is expected to be utilised as part of the selection and preparatory process for the Junior CASA setup that will compete in the British Virgin Islands.
In other results, Justin Goberdhan defeated Brenno DaSilva 12-10, 8-11, 11-2, and 11-3; Rylee Rodrigues dispatched Malia Maikoo 11-7, 13-11, and 11-9; and Emily Fung-A-Fat thrashed Tiana Gomes won 11-2, 11-2, and 11-7 in the C-Division.
Meanwhile, Nijad Bacchus edged Jacob McDonald 11-9, 11-1, 5-11, 11-13, and 11-3, while Egan Bulkan downed Matthew Daby 11-6, 6-11, 11-1, and 11-7 in the D-Division.
In the E-Division, Zoey McDonald brushed aside Kristian Viapree 11-8, 11-3, and 11-7; Tehani Munroe crushed Maxwell Viapree 11-7, 11-7, and 11-4; and Rafael Brathwaite mauled Ella Fernandes 11-4, 11-4, and 11-0.
In the F-Division, Kirsten Gomes squeaked past Jonathan Antczak 12-10, 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, and 13-11.
