First Lady’s office to help develop Anna Regina Independence Park

The Office of the First Lady is to collaborate with the Ministry of Public Works and Sheriff Guyana Inc to develop and beautify the Independence Park in Region Two.

The sod-turning ceremony yesterday morning, marked the official commencement of this initiative. Attendees included First Lady Arya Ali, Region Two Chair Vilma De Silva, Mayor of Anna Regina Devin Mohan, and Managing Director of Sheriff Guyana Ameir Ahmad.

Speaking before the sod-turning exercise, the First Lady expressed her excitement about extending her beautification efforts to  Pomeroon-Supenaam.

The planned upgrades include washroom facilities, free WiFi, an outdoor gym, a play park, gazebos, garbage receptacles and enhanced security measures.

Mrs Ali explained the economic benefits of the park, highlighting how improved recreational spaces can attract visitors and boost local businesses in the region.  

She also stressed the importance of community involvement in maintaining the park’s standards, reflecting on successful enhancements in Regions Three, Four and Six.

The First Lady appealed to residents to protect the new infrastructure and expressed gratitude to the project partners for their support.

Ahmad described the initiative as a multi-million-dollar investment. He expressed satisfaction in partnering with the Office of the First Lady, underscoring Sheriff Guyana’s commitment to projects that enhance community welfare and stimulate economic growth.

De Silva highlighted the transformative impact of the project on the region’s development. She pointed out that landfilling has been completed on the site. The park is already in use however basic amenities are lacking.

Mohan supported the initiative, emphasizing its potential to enhance the town’s appeal and provide a much-needed recreational space for residents.
