Should Alexander recuse himself from Norton economic team?

Dear Editor,

History will show that there exists a conflict of interest with GECOM commissioner Vincent Alexander who has earned many accolades and national respect for his exemplary work fighting for the holding of credible elections in Guyana.

Should we be asking whether Alexander, an appointed economic team member of the incumbent PNCR party leader with David Hales, Elson Lowe, and Rawle Lucas represents serious questions for conflict of interests? Especially, because Alexander is a member of the unilaterally appointed incumbent PNCR party leader’s Biennial Congress team. He may be selected to serve as the Biennial Congress election returning officer. Questions now remain pursuant to the party leader informing the party and public that an independent audit will be performed on the membership CPU after it was removed without authorization from the office.

What is Commissioner Alexander real role in the carefully choreographed or managed PNCR party election? GECOM commissioner Alexander has a stellar reputation for being a fighter of integrity and credible election. Can there be a credible PNCR party Biennial Congress election without the independent audit and report of the party membership CPU? Especially, since it was removed from the office by a paid staffer of the Leader of the Opposition who is the self-appointed Director of the Biennial Congress committee?

How can the Biennial Congress team member reconcile that the monthly operating cost for Congress Place is approximately $3,000,000 dollars and the cash inflow is approximately $800,000 dollars? The math does not add up when there has been no financial accountability under the incumbent PNCR party leader. Where are we going, party supporters and members?

Can GECOM commissioner Vincent Alexander preserve his legacy as a champion for free, fair and credible election in Guyana? Should Alexander recuse himself from Norton economic team and the unilaterally appointed Biennial Congress team to protect his integrity now?

Sincerely,

Egland Gomes
