Kobras and Colts tallied wins when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s (GABA) U-23 Men’s Championship continued Wednesday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Kobras squeaked past the UG Trojans 46-44. Joshua Thompson led the victor with 16 points, while Elijah David supported him with 14 points. For the loser, Daniel Benjamin netted nine points, while the duo of Leandre Abrams and Darren Thomas scored six points apiece.

The contest started poorly for Kobras, as they trailed 5-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans unit then extended their lead in the second period as they outscored Kobras 15-13 to enter the halftime break in control at 28-18.

However, it proved to be a game of two halves as Kobras reduced the deficit in the third stanza, netting 18 points, while restricting the Trojans offence to 11 points to trail 36-39 heading into the final period. Kobras then completed the come-from-behind win as they outscored the Trojans in a low-scoring quarter, 10-5.

Meanwhile, Colts downed Leonora 66-54. Carmelo Mon-Son-Hing and Ronoko Vaughn tallied 13 points in the victory. For the loser, Shaquan Archer recorded 17 points, while Chikosi Rafiki was the next best scorer with nine points.

Leading 15-10 at the end of the first stanza, Colts extended their advantage in the second period, netting 16 points while restricting Leonora to 10 points to enter the halftime interval on control at 31-20.

However, Leonora reduced the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring the Colts outfit 17-9 to enter the final stanza trailing by a 37-40 score. Nevertheless, any hopes of a Leonora come-from-behind win were quickly extinguished as the Colts out-hustled their opponent 26-17.

The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches.
