Rafiq Bobby Chichester appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with attempted murder.

He was not required to plead to the indictable offence.

It was alleged that on May 26 2024 at East Ruimveldt he attempted to murder Nekisha Bennett by the use of personal violence. The court heard that the two were in a relationship and had a dispute.

The court heard that Chichester grabbed Bennett  by her hair and dealt her several slaps about her face and body. While still holding on to her hair, he proceeded to drag her across the floor of the home and kept kicking her about her body. She managed to escape his grip and ran into a nearby bedroom locking the door.  Chichester  kicked down the door and grabbed her and dealt her slaps and kicks about her body.

This caused Bennett to fall unconscious for a few minutes. After regaining consciousness she attempted to make a run for it. The court heard that Chichester then grabbed a bottle of kerosene and doused her with it. He then grabbed a piece of wood and dealt her a lash  across her back. Almost out of the doorway he proceeded to kick her which resulted in her falling down the flight of stairs.

She was able to escape with the help of public-spirited persons and taken to the East Ruimveldt Police Station where she reported the incident and Chichester was arrested. With the help of the police Bennett was taken to the hospital where she received treatment.

Magistrate Nurse denied bail and Chichester was remanded to prison until June 26 2024.
