Psyiffia Boodram, a 24-year-old teacher of Lot 4 Public Road, Ruimveldt, Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2, yesterday charged with the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It was alleged that on May 29 2024 at Lot 4 Public Road, Ruimveldt, Georgetown she had in her possession 3015 grams of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking, she pleaded not guilty.
Her attorney, Bernard DaSilva told the court that the narcotic was found in a shop- like structure in front of the home where Boodram resides. This structure he said is accessible to the public,
The prosecution then told the magistrate that DaSilva’s information does not match what they had on file, according to the prosecutor the narcotic was found in various parts of Boodram’s room. Acting on information, ranks visited the address stated and found the accused where they told her about their suspicion. A search was conducted in her presence and the narcotic was found under her bed among other places in the room.
When arrested and taken to the station she admitted on video that the narcotics belonged to her,
DaSilva told the magistrate that these weren’t the instructions given to him by his client. When asked if she should be granted bail, he made his application citing that Boodram is a mother of a six-month-old and a one-year-old.
The magistrate denied bail since no special reasons were given. The matter was adjourned to June 21, 2024 for report on the status of the investigation.
