A 10-year-old boy was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Thursday for treatment after he was beaten with a belt with a buckle. The child was later handed over to the Child Care and Protection Agency.
A police press release said on Thursday, at about 19:20 hours, acting on information received, ranks responded to a report of ‘domestic violence’ at North Victoria, E.C.D. Upon arrival, contact was made with Melaine Poole, who reported that about 16:30 hours, a 10-year-old, ran into her yard screaming and shouting for help.
Poole further stated that she observed blood flowing from a wound on the boy’s head and rendered first-aid treatment to control the bleeding. She then inquired from the lad how he suffered his injuries, and he stated that he was beaten with a belt (with buckle). The police were summoned.
The child was later handed over to police and an examination of the exposed portion of his body revealed marks of violence.
The minor was escorted to Doctor CC Nicholas Hospital for treatment and later referred to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) for further medical attention. At the GPHC, he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty, treated, and sent away.
Contact was made with the director of the Child Care and Protection Agency, and the minor was placed in their care.
Checks were made at the home of the child for the person who allegedly committed the act but the person was not found.
