There can be no one in Guyana described as Negro in documents emanating from state agencies

Dear Editor,

The last population census of Guyana (2012), the definitive national document on the population of Guyana, states the ethnic groups of Guyana as follows: African/Black, Amerindian, Chinese, East Indian, Mixed Portuguese, White, and Others. Since the census is not counting “Negroes” there can be no one in Guyana described as Negro in documents emanating from state agencies.

The Guyana Police Force needs to align its norms and practices with the other national policies as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,
