The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has installed an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to administer and bring stability to the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA).

This was disclosed in a release from the federation. According to the correspondence, the entity, which was made official on May 31st in accordance with Article 51 of the GFF’s statutes, comprises Chairperson Grace Burgess as well as Committee Members George Adolph, Danneze Lovell, and Joseph Prescott.

The body will last for the duration of 12 months and will be tasked with the daily operations of the association in accordance with the entity’s constitution and the GFF Statutes, a review and update process in aligning the WDFA Constitution with the GFF Statutes, regularising the structure of the clubs, and supervising an eventual election.

The release stated that GFF General Secretary Ian Alves clarified in a correspondence to CONCACAF General Secretary Philippe Moggio, his Caribbean Football Union (CFU) counterpart Camara David, and GFF Member Associations that the decision to install the body was due to the prolonged and unexplained absence of President Trevor Williams and the subsequent resignation of the association’s secretary Adrian Giddings.

The release stated, “Additionally, on June 24, 2023, GFF President Wayne Forde and Vice President Brigadier (Ret) Bruce Lovell held a meeting with the clubs of the WDFA. During the candid discussion, a series of serious allegations and complaints were raised, including poor management of funds raised during the Association’s 2022 Senior Men’s League, lack of disclosure of these funds to members, disappearance of football development equipment provided under the Member Financial Assistance Programme (M-FAP), and the unreported theft of the total bar income on the night of the league final.”

Meanwhile, Alves further affirmed that “the GFF will undertake an extensive investigation into these allegations and reports, in addition to conducting a comprehensive audit of the association.”

Alves further added that, “in the coming days, the GFF Administration will schedule a general council meeting with the clubs of the WDFA to provide further updates on the work of the IMC.”
